Fin Range

The “K” series fin, is the next generation design to come off the drawing board from Boogie of C3 fame. Boogie used all of his experience with extensive use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to develop a foil with excellent properties for Formula sailing. The foil design has a very wide drag bucket. Put simply this means that upwind you can foot off, or pinch upwind, with very little change in drag and downwind speed is second to none.

An outline with an almost neutral twist, allows precise control of twist and bend to suit each individual sailor. There is no need to compensate for built in geometric twist, which means twist can be well defined by any change in the layup.

Our bends would generally be referred to as “XS” however this can be customised for each order. The bend is generally stiffer in the base, with extra softness in the tip, which through our testing gives very consistent pressure, and enables the foiling mode sailors so often look for.

Rake is measured by how many degrees the fin is from vertical at the base. Our most common rake is 4 degrees, however for flatter rockered boards, 5 degrees is recommended.

The fin as designed at 70cm develops surprising amounts of power. Lighter sailors have found this size to be sufficient for all round use, but we can build up to 79 cm cutdowns. Five sizes have been developed 68cm, 70 cm, 73 cm, 76 cm, 79 cm, but if you feel that another size would be better suited, then we can build that as well. We don’t just cut the fin at the requested length, each size has a specific layup for optimal bend and twist.

We test our fins with all of the major formula board brands in the market, either personally, or with the assistance of some of the top windsurfers around the world. Occasionally we also get to test new board prototypes, so that we have a good idea of the properties required prior to release.
